BSM Smart Academy

Programme Overview

Cadets are inducted into the programme upon completion of their first year. Recruitment and selection involve psychometric and aptitude tests as well as interviews. Once accepted as Cadets, individuals embark on a full-time four-year training program (three years at the University + one year cadetship onboard BSM managed vessels, or as per regional/national rules.

They gain valuable experience and training in preparation for a career in BSM. This training is delivered in collaboration with local and external partners in full alignment with BSM training materials, vision and mission statement.

By improving pre-sea preparation of junior personnel, we elevate the average knowledge and experience base, minimising the risk of underperforming crew and translating into greater safety onboard our ships.

Faster career progression

The Programme will assist in shortening the advancement to promotions for future officers, hence securing a pipeline of well trained and high-potential personnel. BSM actively invests in crew education, training, and development to help reduce the crewing shortage over time and maintain industry safety standards. The BSM Smart Academy program is another component in BSM's intensive recruitment and retention commitment, supplementing the existing postgraduate Cadet Program, internal fleet transition program, and proactive recruitment approach.
