Liquid CO2 carrier for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) applications

The Maritime Energy Centre (MEC) is the Think Tank of the Schulte Group for all activities related to LNG, alternative fuels and liquid CO2 shipping.

With ongoing developments in decarbonising the maritime industry, the MEC portfolio has expanded to include research and advice on renewable and low-carbon fuels (bio or e-methane, ammonia, methanol, hydrogen, and nuclear power), alternative energy technologies and involvement in the first generation of Liquid CO2 carriers for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) applications.

When the department was founded in 2018, the focus was on the development of LNG Carriers, Floating Storage (and Regasification) Units (FSU/ FSRU), LNG-related ownership projects and general LNG consultancy services. Based on Schulte Group’s extensive experience operating the LNG bunker vessel “Kairos”, the MEC experts developed a patented design for a new LNG Bunker Vessel.

Due to the increasing requirements of the shipping industry to improve its climate footprint, such as EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime, the MEC has significantly expanded its operational field from solely LNG to all alternative fuel choices.

The MEC activity portfolio is managed by a dedicated team of specialists with diverse backgrounds in the marine industry including chief engineers, technicians, master mariners, personal officers and business analysts. They are focusing on coordination and knowledge sharing within the Schulte Group as well as developing sustainable technology strategies for ship management, ship ownership and crew recruitment and training. In addition, the MEC offers external parties such as ship owners and charterers qualified and reliable consultancy services on suitable maritime fuels and related technical, crewing and commercial solutions.
