Course Description

This course is aimed at Deck Officers and any person with immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging, care in transit, handling of cargo, tank cleaning or other cargo-related operations on chemical tankers In accordance with IMO Model Course 1.37 and the requirements of Regulation V/1-1 and Section A-V/1-1 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, STCW 1978 (as amended).

Course Content

On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise types of chemical tanker design and equipment including tank and pipeline arrangement, pipe systems and control valves and pumps. Instrumentation and control of basic operations and procedures.
  • Understand special operations and procedures on tank atmosphere evaluation, use of inert gas, cleaning of cargo tanks, gas freeing and ventilation, steaming of tanks, tank cleaning in various atmospheres and tank cleaning with chemicals.
  • Apply the concept of Ballasting and de-balling operations.
  • Contribute to the safe cargo operations of chemical tankers including the segregation of cargoes, cargo planning, loading, unloading and cargo conditioning.
  • Understand different operational problems in every cargo and related operation during normal working procedures. Take precautions to prevent hazards and visual vigilance in any introduction of system faults, malfunctions and accidents and be able to do remedial actions.
