Environmental Compliance Plan - Familiarization

Content Description

This course is designed for BSM seafarers (Officers and Ratings) who are serving on Covered Vessels (Oil and Gas Tankers) holding Vessel General Permits (VGP) to operate out of US Coastal Waters.

The aim of this course is to familiarise those seafarers with the Environmental Compliance Plan (ECP) and how to apply the ECP when on board. It also explains individual responsibilities under the ECP. This training is a mandatory requirement.

Course Content

On successful completion of this course, the delegate will understand:

  • Existing marine environmental protection requirements.
  • ECP terminology
  • ECP structure, including the CM and contact information.
  • Companies and seafarer’s obligations under the ECP
  • Auditing and training requirements contained within the ECP
  • BSM practices and procedures for environmental compliance
  • The reporting system used to report non-compliance.
  • Sanctions and consequences for violations such as remedial training, suspension, termination, and civil and criminal liability
  • Introduction training in the operation, maintenance and repair of oily water separators, incinerators, oil content discharge monitoring equipment, and other pollution prevention equipment.
Entry Standards

All seafarers (Officers and Ratings) who are serving on Covered Vessels (Oil and Gas Tankers) holding Vessel General Permits (VGP) to operate out of US Coastal Waters.
