Course Description

This training is aimed at those personnel who have been identified to become Safety officers, this course meets the requirements set out in the CSWP & MS Regulations SI 1997/2962 for the duties of Safety Officers.

Course Content

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Carry out the role of a ship safety officer;
  • Carry out risk assessment and accident reporting
  • Carry out safety audits and inspections;
  • Create a safety culture aboard the ship through teamwork;
Entry Standards

Entry criteria for the course should be a minimum age of 18 years with a minimum 12 months sea time to ensure underpinning knowledge.

Centres are to ensure, a pre-course test and introductory briefing is carried out, and that potential Safety Officers are informed of their roles and responsibilities of a Ships Safety Officer.
