On 16 March 2021 Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) announced the signing of the International Marine Purchasing Association’s (IMPA) ‘SAVE’ pledge – pledging to remove the use of single-use water bottles on board its vessels, replacing them with new and alternative water filtration solutions.

BSM joined the cause to reduce the use of single-use plastics and promote a more sustainable blue economy as it’s fully aligned with the ‘Sustainable Development’ project under the BSM Strategic Action Plan 2025 (click here to read more).

A part of BSM’s strategy is to build a culture supporting the area of sustainability, to improve our environmental impact, and to address the sustainability needs of our stakeholders. Therefore, IMPA’s #IMPASAVE initiative contributes fully towards this goal.

Additionally, by making the SAVE pledge, BSM is fully aligned with the Schulte Group’s #BlueSeasMatter initiative which aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastic by our organisation.

“What is important to us is leading from the front or being part of the leading pack,” saidMartin MacMahon, Environmental Compliance Manager at BSM.

“These small processes contribute to us achieving our ‘zero single-use plastic’ aims. If we don’t use plastic, it won’t find its way to the oceans or land for that matter. Supporting other pledges is just as good as creating your own good pledge,” concludedMacMahon.

By signing the pledge, BSM became the 22nd IMPA SAVE Pledger meaning that more than 5,500 vessels representing over 10% of the global fleet are now committed to it.
