Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is produced by refining crude oil or "wet" natural gas. The seaborn transportation of this commodity involves specialised vessels, a ship manager with the necessary technical and operational expertise, as well as dedicated, qualified crew. Any delays in the loading, voyage and discharge phases can lead to cargo loss in the form of boil-off gas.
We vet, hire and train our crew to the highest standards to handle this specialised cargo through our Crew Service Centres (CSCs) and Maritime Training Centres (MTCs).
BSM is the LPG ship manager of choice thanks to its extensive track record in this space since 1968. We have more than 50 years of experience in the management of gas carriers, including the provision of design and gas consultancy services. Over 120 gas carriers are currently managed by BSM to the extremely high standards of the industry stakeholders.
BSM’s experience of the segment covers all vessel and cargo systems, ranging from smaller semi and fully pressurized units to medium-sized and very large fully refrigerated vessels, including Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs). In addition, BSM manages a fleet of sophisticated ethylene carriers.
As part of our operational excellence, BSM undergoes regular oil major audits. We apply the Oil Companies International Marine Forum’s (OCIMF) Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA) system across our managed fleet to embrace industry best practices and comply fully with ISM requirements to ensure safe and efficient vessel operation.
BSM is a member of SIGTTO and SGMF, with senior executives holding prominent positions in these key industry bodies.
