Course Description

The training covers how to conduct of safe vessel operations and navigation in ice waters. It is aimed at Masters and Deck Officers sailing in the Baltic Sea, Barents Sea, White Sea, Azov Sea, Sea of Okhotsk, Bering Sea, Gulf of St.Lawrence and any other ice-covered areas.

Course Content

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand of the risks involved when operating vessels in ice conditions and cold climates
  • Have knowledge of regulatory requirements and safe working practices in ice conditions and cold climates
  • Demonstrate practical experience of handling vessels in ice conditions using a
  • navigational bridge simulator
  • Understand safety techniques, risks and limitations with unassisted navigation in ice
  • Understand safe methods for proceeding in icebreaker convoy
  • Carry out safe towing and mooring operations in ice
Entry Standards

Deck Officers who are required to trade in areas affected by ice, other than those mandated by STCW and the Polar Code
