Course Description

This course provides training in marshalship management specific Bridge Resource Management and Ship handling techniques and focuses on developing bridge procedures and principles and allows an opportunity to handle ships in various conditions in a simulator. The course exceeds the STCW requirements.

Course Content

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • To improve general operational practices and enhance situational awareness
  • Apply communication practices both internal and external
  • Understand bridge team limitations and utilize teams to their full potential
  • Understand vessel and equipment limitations
  • Apply and integrate BSM policies, procedures and checklists (Marine Manual)
  • Understand and apply ship handling principles as well as recognition and appropriate reactions to dangers
  • Practice and evaluate collision avoidance principles / Rule of the Road
  • Understand and apply proper crisis management during emergencies
  • BSM Way of Working and Permit to work System
Entry Standards

All Deck Officers. Thorough understanding of STCW Tables II/1, II/2 and above.

Facilities

Classroom, Bridge simulators.

Teaching Method

Classroom lectures, Case Studies and Simulator exercises.

Guidelines

IMO Model Course 1.22, COLREGS, The ISM Code, Company SMS, Bridge Procedures Guide and SIRE 2.0.

Course Duration

5 days.

Assessment

Written and practical exams, final examination / evaluation.

Certification

BSM course attendance certificate. Refresh period every 5 years at 2.5 years after / between STCW COC issue date
