Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has become one of the single largest ship manager contributors to INTERTANKO’s GHG benchmarking tool. Launched in November 2024, INTERTANKO’s GHG benchmarking tool has rapidly gained traction, with more than 870 ships already sharing vital DCS data from 2023 to 2025. BSM's contribution of more than 100 vessels, whose data are transmitted through the DNV’s Veracity Data Workbench API, bolsters this data pool, providing invaluable insights for the entire tanker sector. In total, around 415 ships are sharing data continuously through the Veracity by DNV interface, further enhancing the tool’s accuracy and live functionality.
BSM’s commitment to data transparency empowers INTERTANKO members to benchmark their fleet's performance against anonymised industry data, gaining crucial competitive advantages and ensuring regulatory compliance clarity. By utilising the same reporting formats required by key Recognized Organizations, BSM streamlines the data submission process, minimising administrative burdens and encouraging broader participation.
“We firmly believe that data sharing is essential for driving meaningful progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” stated Martin Mac Mahon, Environmental Compliance Manager at BSM. Anup Chechani, Manager of Performance and Decarbonization at BSM’s Fleet Performance Centre, added, “We are proud to be at the forefront of this initiative fostering a collaborative environment. By providing considerable but anonymised data, we are not only enhancing our clients’ operational efficiency but also contributing to the development of robust environmental regulations that will shape the future of our industry.”
The more stakeholders take the data sharing journey, the more the entire industry will benefit as it allows to see how well a single ship compares in a competitive market. BSM aims to lead by example and inspire others to join them on that journey.
INTERTANKO members can request access to the GHG Benchmarking Tool by logging into INTERTANKO.com.

With the GHG benchmarking tool, users can compare the rating and CO2 emissions of their own ships with the anonymised data of the industry and thus evaluate their competitiveness
